Marion Bowman Announces Candidacy for Fredericksburg Treasurer

Fredericksburg-area native seeks to give back to the city through strong customer service and financial management

Fredericksburg, Va.— June 6, 2025 —Fredericksburg resident Marion Scott Bowman today announced her intention to seek the office of City Treasurer in the Nov. 4 election. Bowman has more than 20 years of experience working in finance management for Running for City of Fredericksburg Treasurer area businesses and nonprofits, and wants to put her skills to work in the service of the city residents.

“As Treasurer, my priority will be to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is handled responsibly, transparently, and with the community’s best interest at heart. I believe in accessible government, where people feel seen, heard, and respected,” Bowman said. “I would be honored to have this opportunity to give back to a city that has given me so many opportunities.”

A native of Fauquier County, Bowman said she first “fell in love” with Fredericksburg as a teenager attending field hockey camp at what is now the University of Mary Washington.

“That is when I decided I love this city, and I want to move here one day. When I finished college, that’s just what I did,” she said.

After earning a degree in business administration from Coastal Carolina University, Bowman started her career in financial management in Fredericksburg, helping city business owner John Wack to open the Fredericksburg Field House in 2005. Over the years, she has served as a finance manager at a variety of organizations in the city, including Loisann’s Hope House, the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board, and several area businesses, including her current employer, Breg Environmental.

Bowman, who has two school-age children, has also volunteered with a number of city organizations. She has served as a volunteer at the city’s cold-night shelter for homeless individuals, she is a past treasurer of Hugh Mercer Elementary School PTA, and she helps with fundraising and assists nonprofit ministries through her involvement at Common Ground Church, where she is an active member.

In making her decision to run, Bowman said she has sought to learn about the office from Brenda A. Wood, who has served as Treasurer since 2014, and will not seek reelection in November.

Wood said she fully supports Bowman’s candidacy.

“Marion Bowman has served this great little city of Fredericksburg with a servant’s heart for 20 years in various roles and is ready to make the next move to continue serving its citizens and businesses as your next Treasurer,” Wood said. “I am excited for this opportunity for her and look forward to watching her grow this office to fit the needs of our thriving community. I endorse Marion 100% and I encourage your support on election day, November 4th, by voting for Marion as the most qualified candidate.”
